Flau’Jae Johnson’s mom Kia Brooks drops 4-word reaction for LSU star’s tribute to her mother and father

LSU Tigers star Flau'Jae Johnson is best known for her success on the basketball court. However, she has also made a name for herself in the music industry. She is a rapper signed with Roc Nation and has released three albums since 2023.

On Thursday, Johnson paid tribute to her mother and father with a rap she posted on her Instagram. In the song, she referenced the challenges her mother faced around the death of her father before Johnson was even born.

"I like to tell them that my story started before I was born," Johnson rapped. "I came in the family that already was torn. My mama couldn't smile when she had me, she had to mourn. They killed my pop when they had me, I wasn't even formed."

Kia Brooks then reposted the song to her Instagram story on Thursday and dropped a four-word reaction to the tribute.

"This one hit different," Brooks wrote.

Flau'Jae Johnson has continued to defy expectations from the tragic start to her life. She has become a star in not just one industry but two. It will be interesting to see if she continues to pursue both basketball and music full-time in the coming years.

Johnson is heading into her final college season with the LSU Tigers. As a junior, she averaged 18.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.7 spg. She will be trying to lead the Tigers to a national championship before she declares for the WNBA draft next spring.

ESPN writer Michael Voepel posted his list of the top prospects in women's college basketball heading into next season. While he did not have Johnson at the top of the list, she was the No. 5-ranked player. She is ranked behind UCLA's Lauren Betts, UConn's Azzi Fudd, TCU's Olivia Miles and South Carolina's Ta'Niya Latson.

With Aneesah Morrow leaving the Tigers this offseason to start her WNBA career, Johnson will need to take on a bigger role next season. Fans will be watching eagerly to see how she performs as the No. 1 scoring option.
