Haley Cavinder and her twin Hanna are on a roll as they have led Miami Hurricanes to six straight wins, placing them first in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
In the last two games though, forward Cameron Williams has played a bigger role than the Cavinder twins. Williams finished with 20 points and seven rebounds against Campbell and 22 points and 10 rebounds against Charlotte, on Thursday.
The Hurricanes celebrated Williams' incredible performance with a special post after the game against the 49ers.
"BACK TO BACK ‼️ Cam’s 22 point double-double makes her the player of the game…again! 🙌🔥," the caption read.
Haley Cavinder praised Cameron Williams in the comments, writing:
"Top 2 not 2."
Previously, in October, Williams had praised the Cavinder twins for their work ethic and their passion for basketball, in an interview with the Miami Herald.
“They’re some of the hardest workers you’ll ever meet; they’re the first ones here every single day,” Williams said. “They’ve done an amazing job of setting the standard for this program and letting the younger kids know that we came here to win.
“That could easily go two different directions,” Williams said. “But with them being here to work so hard, we’re happy that they’re able to monetize off the court as much as they do.”
Haley Cavinder leads the Miami Hurricanes to a spectacular start
During their senior year with the Hurricanes, the Cavinder twins have led their team to its first trip to the Elite Eight.
The sisters took a year off but are now back in full force. Haley Cavinder commented on their reason for the comeback in an interview in October.
“The competitive edge is something I really, really missed and was itching for,” she said, per Miami Herald. “Hanna and I are doing whatever it takes to be the best basketball players and teammates we can be. That’s how we were raised. It’s in our DNA. There’s a lot of misconceptions about us, but once you know us, you know who we really are.”
Apart from their results on the court, the Cavinder twins are also bringing in more attention to the program, raising the footfall at Watsco Center.
"I love that no matter where you are, walking through an airport, people yell out, 'The U!' It’s awesome to have that national recognition,” coach Tricia Cullop was quoted as saying in the same article. "We’d love to build our attendance. I told the (Cavinder) twins, 'You take care of the young people and I’ll take care of the old people.' If they come watch us once, they’ll come back."
Haley Cavinder is averaging 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists this season. Miami will next play Quinnipiac on Sunday.
