Then-No. 4-ranked Kentucky defeated in-state rivals Louisville 93-85 in a drama-filled matchup at Rupp Arena on Dec. 14. Terrence Edwards was in action for the Cardinals and it was not the defeat that plastered a lasting memory for him but the atmosphere which he called the "greatest" he had ever been in.
“I thought it was great," Edwards said in the postgame presser. "I wish I could do it again,” he said in the post-game conference. “That’s the greatest atmosphere I’ve ever played in as far as coming into a game.”
Edwards, who is in his final season, scored 23 points, leading his team alongside Chucky Hepburn who had a team-high 26 points. However, the Cardinals could not contain the Wildcats, allowing them to shoot 58.2%, compared to their 44.3%, and walked away with the win in the annual "Battle of the Bluegrass."
Terrence Edwards reveals why Louisville players are committed to Kentucky game
Last Saturday's game may have been the first rivalry matchup for Louisville coach Pat Kelsey, which was as heated as the previous meetings. For Terrence Edwards and his teammates, the game was a commitment to beat their rivals and be part of the history.
"This big rivalry game, all of us really committed to this game," Edwards said. "Some of us came here just to play against Kentucky, you know what I’m saying?” He said ahead of the matchup. “That was a big part of it, to live up in that rivalry and try to be a part of some history.I was just extra excited and everybody was too. I’m wearing this Louisville across our chest, we don’t take it for granted.
“We knew this game was huge, we came in, tried to answer a couple of runs, and came up short, but it’s like no other. Guys in the hotel when you come out, you see the L’s down and stuff like that, that really makes you want to win the game but it was a great atmosphere.”
Kentucky leads Louisville 40-17 in the all-time series. The Cardinals are 6-5 this season following the loss.
Louisville is back in action on Saturday against Florida State before playing its last game of the year versus the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Dec. 28 at KFC Yum! Center.
