Lucy Olsen is questionable going into Iowa's game against the BYU Cougars on Friday. She has one injury listed, absent from Thursday's encounter against Rhode Island. The confirmation of her possibly being on the court for the matchup will be known before the 9 p.m. ET tip-off.
Olsen is going through the fourth season of her collegiate career. She initially played three years with the Villanova Wildcats before taking her talents to the Midwest and transferring to Iowa.
Why Lucy Olsen missed the Rhode Island contest
According to Iowa coach Jan Jensen before the matchup with Rhode Island, Lucy Olsen suffered a gash on her knee during a team practice that required stitches.
“Unique situation. Sometimes surprising, unfortunate and unlucky situations happen," Jensen said. "We were just getting ready to practice and she kind of tripped, came off the floor, hit a ledge and had a pretty significant gash in her knee…nothing season altering, but just a pretty tough cut.”
Even though they missed her presence, No. 22 Iowa got the job done on Thursday, taking a 69-62 victory to improve to 7-0 on the season. Addison O'Grady stepped up with a team-high 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, while Hannah Stuelke and Kyle Feuerback combined for 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting overall.
Lucy Olsen plays a major role in the Hawkeyes's offense. She leads the team in scoring with 17.3 points per contest on 48.9 percent shooting from the field and 29.2 percent from beyond the arc. Iowa will benefit from her scoring if Olsen is available for the game, as they average 80.8 points when she plays.
They face a Cougars squad that is 6-1 to start the season. They score 71 points on 42.3 percent shooting while conceding 61.4 points on 37.6 percent shooting to their opponents. Delaney Gibb stands out as their best scorer and shooter, averaging 17.7 points and having success rates of 46.5 percent overall and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc.
After the game against BYU, No. 22 Iowa will travel to the Empire State to face Tennessee at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
