MiLaysia Fulwiley has a healthy status entering today's matchup against the No. 15 Iowa State Cyclones. She has no injuries listed, having been present in all six of No. 4 South Carolina's contests. The confirmation of her taking part in the game will be known before the 1:30 p.m. ET tip-off.
Fulwiley is progressing in the second season of her collegiate career. Her freshman campaign saw her emerge as a scoring option off the bench, scoring 11.7 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc. She was named to SEC All-Freshman Team as she helped the Gamecocks win the national championship.
How MiLaysia Fulwiley has performed for South Carolina this season
MiLaysia Fulwiley remains consistent as an offensive presence while coming off the bench for the Gamecocks.
Six contests in, Fulwiley is averaging 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 44.1% shooting overall and 33.3% from downtown. Her last game against UCLA on Nov. 24 drew attention not for her performance, but for her lack of minutes instead. She was only on the court for three minutes, subbing out near the end of the first quarter then not playing again.
Head coach Dawn Staley addressed the events, denying notions of Fulwiley making a potential transfer and that she remains committed to winning with the Gamecocks.
“It’s her process. Everybody has a process. And everybody wants to say transfer but we trust over here. That’s with everybody. MiLaysia and I are good. Other people ask about issues and what is going on here, but our house is tight,” Staley said after Wednesday's practice.
Despite suffering their first loss of the season to the Bruins, the Gamecocks have had a solid start with a 5-1 record to show for it. Te-Hina Paopao leads the way with numbers of 14.2 points, 3.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds on 52.2% shooting from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, while Chloe Kitts puts up 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds.
Following the contest, MiLaysia Fulwiley and No. 4 South Carolina will remain on the road when they play the Purdue Boilermakers at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Florida, on Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. ET.
