RJ Davis looks set to feature in the Tar Heels' game against the No. 4 Auburn Tigers at 11:00 PM ET. There are no reports of any injuries to the talented guard and looks set to be a lock in Hubert Davis' starting five for the Tar Heels' showdown with the Tigers.
Davis has been one of the standouts for No. 12 North Carolina this season. Since returning from a lower back contusion which he suffered in an exhibition game against Memphis on Oct. 15, he has been one of the key components of the Tar Heels' backcourt and has been a scoring machine in their opening five games.
Davis inspired the Tar Heels to overcome a 21-point deficit in their opening game of the Maui Invitational against the Dayton Flyers on Monday night, with North Carolina securing a 92-90 victory.
Davis finished as the Tar Heels' top scorer with 30 points and recorded seven rebounds and five assists. Seth Trimble backed him up with a massive 27-point effort as the Tar Heels completed their second-biggest comeback in program history.
RJ Davis expresses concerns following narrow win over Dayton
After leading the Tar Heels' sensational comeback, RJ Davis voiced his concerns with the Tar Heels' first-half performance during the postgame press conference. He also shared the mindset Trimble had, which he believed was the key to their comeback.
"There was a lot of motivation going into halftime for myself and Seth," Davis said (per Inside Carolina). "We were kind of like the voice in terms of just trying to get guys going and just build our spirit. Obviously we went down big in the first half. Wasn’t the first half we like to play.
"Myself and Seth, we just told them, like, We got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. We always putting ourselves in this positions and got to climb our way back into games. If we can just put together the second half like we did tonight in the first half for a full 40 minutes, we’ll be more than fine.
"I feel like in the second half, the way we battled, competed, we just chipped away possession by possession. I think that’s when we knew we would come back from this game."
RJ Davis will be keen to maintain his momentum against Auburn, which could go a long way in deciding how the Tar Heels fare against Bruce Pearl's team on Tuesday.
