Jaxson Robinson transfer portal: BYU guard discloses reason behind his decision

BYU Cougars guard Jaxson Robinson entered his name in the transfer portal on Saturday after new head coach Kevin Young took over. Jaxson commented that he was curious to know the new coach but revealed he was "weighing all his options," including his NBA dream.

Kevin Young took the reigns of leadership from outgoing head coach Mark Pope, who went to the Kentucky Wildcats. The Cougars guard said about his transfer portal decision (via ESPN):

“The reason I am entering the transfer portal is because of the new coaching change at BYU. I want to get to know Coach [Kevin] Young, but at the same time, I need to weigh all of my options. However, my primary focus is still achieving my longtime dream of playing in the NBA.”

Robinson averaged 14.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in the 2023-24 season. He posted a 42.6 field goal percentage and shot 35.4 from the 3-point range. Robinson was awarded Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year for his performances. According to ESPN, Jaxson Robinson is the No. 55 prospect in the NBA draft this year, which will be held in June.

Will Jaxson Robinson move to Kentucky?

Mark Pope is the new coach at Kentucky Wildcats, where he previously played. As he took over the role from the outgoing coach John Calipari, several players followed the latter to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Mark Pope is keeping a close eye on the transfer portal as he aims to rebuild the Wildcats. Kentucky could be the next destination for Jaxson Robinson although he mentioned he was keeping his options open:

“Although Coach Pope and I have a great relationship and had an amazing season this past year, it is important that I still explore what the best fit for me is. My recruitment is still 100% open.”
