High school basketball standouts Cayden and Cameron Boozer have been together on and off the court their whole lives. Despite this, they are very different individuals with distinct personality traits. Their mother, CeCe Boozer, spoke to Sports Illustrated about the differences between her sons while explaining their careers in basketball.
“They’ve fought for [their identity] their entire life,” CeCe said. “Even though they did everything together, I made sure that they were both allowed to be their own person.”
Cameron Boozer's mother described him as “stoic” and “serious” with the drive of a budding superstar. SI reports that CeCe told them Cameron is looking to be known for more than basketball:
"With sights set on making an impact on people with special needs and mental health issues before he’s done."
CeCe revealed that if not for his twin, Cayden, who CeCe described as the “loud and rambunctious” twin, Cameron 'would have never gone to movies or done regular kid things.'
“The idea of ‘I am my brother’s keeper’ pretty much defines our family,” CeCe said. “That’s who they’ve been since they were born, blessed to be able to take care of their brother.”
As they are playing their final high school season together at Christopher Columbus High School, Cayden and Cameron Boozer are also preparing for their transition to college.
Cayden and Cameron Boozer choose Duke over home school, Miami
After months of speculations, top 20 recruits, Cayden and Cameron Boozer revealed their choice for school on Friday. They are set to follow in their father, Carlos Boozer's footsteps in wearing the Duke Blue Devils jersey.
"I'm proud of them. They've worked their butts off for this moment," Carlos Boozer told ESPN. "Really excited that they took their time. Decided to play together in college, which is amazing. They both complement each other so well. They made the best decision for them. Me and Mom couldn't be any prouder. It's going to be a fun journey."
The Boozer twins chose the Blue Devils over schools in their home state, Florida. This move is expected to strengthen Jon Scheyer's roster, which has also added top recruits to the current team, including No. 1 player Cooper Flagg.
Cameron Boozer had 20.4 points and 10.1 rebounds at the Nike Peach Jam in July, leading his team, Nightrydas Elite, to the title. He averaged 20.1 points and 9.9 rebounds at the FIBA U17 World Cup last summer and won the MVP.
Cayden Boozer had won two gold medals with his brother, at the U-16 and U-17 levels. He is considered one of the best passer as he led his Nike EYBL team in the category that past couple of seasons.
