Comparisons between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers began right from their freshman season when they joined their respective college teams, Iowa Hawkeyes and UConn Huskies. Despite Clark being in the WNBA now, she continues to be 'The Standard' in college basketball and is often compared to the current players.
Former NBA player and sports analyst Jalen Rose's daughter, Mariah Rose, is the latest to compare the two guards. In a video posted on X on Tuesday, Rose shared Paige Bueckers' journey from high school to college. However, one particular comment from Rose did not sit well with Bueckers' fans.
"She was basically Caitlin Clark before Caitlin Clark," Rose said.
Fans did not like this comparison as one wrote:
"This girl has never had a good take."
"She was never CC before CC stop the cap," a fan wrote
"You’re setting this girl up for failure, just because you dislike Clark. That’s so selfish," another fan said.
Here are some more reactions from fans.
"'She was basically Caitlin Clark before Caitlin Clark'. So what is she now might I ask?", another fan said.
"Mariah, you’re usually so impartial, what happened to you," one fan said.
"Nooo, don’t describe her as the Caitlin before Caitlin. 🫤," a fan said.
Paige Bueckers praised Catilin Clark for her impact on women's basketball
Caitlin Clark played a huge role in bringing more eyes to women's sports, with both her college and WNBA teams breaking viewership and ticket sales records. During the announcement of the 2025 WNBA draft lottery, Fox Sports included a special tribute segment for the 2024 draft's No. 1 pick.
Clark's former college teammates and opponents like Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins spoke of her impact.
"Caitlin brought so much new attention to the rise in women's college basketball and the WNBA, and women's sports in general," Bueckers said. "I feel like the weight of the world is on her shoulders, and she just has this heavy burden to carry, and she does it with grace and humility."
Bueckers and Clark last met in April 2024 for the Final Four tip-off, which Iowa won 71-69. The next time they meet will be in the coming year as Paige Bueckers is predicted to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, with the Dallas Wings being her potential home.
