Senior center Sedona Prince delivered her most outstanding performance of the season as the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs upset the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 76-68 in the first game of the Cayman Islands Classic on Friday.

Prince put together a historic double-double, tallying 20 points, 20 rebounds, eight blocks, four assists and three steals. This remarkable feat makes her just the fourth Division I player since 2000 to achieve such a stat line, joining Natasha Mack, Brooke Salas and Sophia Ederaine.

The week has been especially memorable for Prince, as she also surpassed the 1,000 career points milestone just days earlier.

Standing 6-foot-7, Prince’s size and skill created significant mismatches for Notre Dame, and TCU made a concerted effort to utilize her impact in the second quarter. Trailing by 12 with 6:34 remaining before halftime, Prince spearheaded a 9-0 run, scoring six consecutive points to cut the deficit to three at 32-29 by the 1:43 mark.

By halftime, she had already racked up 12 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. Early in the second half, Prince scored on back-to-back low-post opportunities, narrowing the Irish lead to 35-33.

Prince’s performance made her the first player in NCAA history to record at least 20 rebounds and eight blocks in a single game against an AP Top Five opponent. The graduate student also joined an exclusive list of just six Big 12 players to grab 20 rebounds against a top-five opponent.

Additionally, she became the second TCU player, alongside Athletics Hall of Famer Sandora Irvin, to record a 20-point, 20-rebound game — the first in 20 years, with Irvin last achieving it on Feb. 2, 2004.

Her 20 rebounds marked a career-high and are the most by any Division I player against a ranked opponent so far this season. This game also represented Prince’s 17th double-double while at TCU. She fell just two blocks short of matching her career-best and logged her 20th game with three or more blocks.

TCU makes stunning comeback against Notre Dame

The Horned Frogs (7-0) achieved one of the program’s most significant victories, equaling their highest-ranked win, a 2008 triumph over California. TCU remains undefeated in non-conference games under head coach Mark Campbell, boasting a 22-0 record.

The comeback was fueled by more than just Prince’s performance. Hailey Van Lith exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring the majority of her 21 points in the final period while also adding seven assists and committing just one turnover. Madison Conner contributed 18 points and six rebounds while Emma Nnopu chipped in six of her eight points during the fourth quarter, leading all bench scorers.

This victory marks TCU’s first win over a top-five opponent since 2008. They became one of only 11 teams in the past five seasons to hold Notre Dame to 34% or lower shooting from the field.

The Fighting Irish will look to bounce back on Saturday against Utah in their Cayman Islands Classic finale, while the Horned Frogs face South Florida in their tournament conclusion.
