The Penn State Nittany Lions have their work cut out against the Oregon Ducks in the 2024 Big Ten Championship Game. The Nittany Lions are considered underdogs to a Ducks team that went undefeated in the just concluded college football regular season.
Before the crunch matchup, here's a closer look at three players who could threaten Dillon Gabriel and Co.'s Big Ten Championship hopes.
3 Penn State players who could pose a serious threat to Oregon Ducks
#3. Tyler Warren, Tight End
Tyler Warren is a major part of Penn State's offense and is considered one of the best tight ends in the next NFL draft. Warren is a superb pass catcher and a competent blocker.
The experienced tight end has amassed 81 receptions, 978 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season. He'll surely be a handful for Oregon's defenders in the Big Ten Championship Game. It's up to his quarterback to find him in good spots to do maximum damage.
#2. Jaylen Reed, Safety
Jaylen Reed is the type of safety defensive coordinators love to coach, and offensive coordinators hate to game plan against. Reed is a mobile safety capable of putting an elite offensive player on an island without a boat to escape.
The defensive back has amassed a stat line of 50 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions. His ability to stuff the stat sheet is very impressive, and he'll likely be tasked with locking down Oregon's most dangerous offensive stars.
Offensive players usually get the spotlight in championship games. However, as the saying goes, "Offense wins you games while defense wins you championships." The Penn State Nittany Lions might know something about that, thereby letting Jaylen Reed cook.
#1. Drew Allar, Quarterback
If an Oregon Ducks fan says they're not worried about Drew Allar, that'll likely be a big lie. Allar has a career year with 2,668 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Allar has improved his draft stock exponentially with his performances this season, and he's in prime position to do the funniest thing. The 2024 Big Ten Championship Game might be the stage he needs to go from a decent project to an undisputable first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Furthermore, Allar has a decent bunch of pass catchers to throw the ball to. It won't be a surprise if the Oregon Ducks defensive coaching staff is plotting ways of limiting Allar and Co. in the Big Ten game.
