Dontay Corleone has been a part of the Cincinnati Bearcats since 2021. Coming out of Corleain High School, the defensive tackle committed to playing collegiate football with the Bearcats. After redshirting his freshman campaign, Corleone became a key defensive player over the years.

During Cincinnati's Week 9 game against the Colorado Buffaloes, Corleone had an unfortunate event on the field and was taken out of the game. So what happened to the Bearcats DT?


What happened to Dontay Corleone?

During the opening drive of the second half, the Cincinnati DT went down on the field. He was then taken to the sidelines where the medical team was checking his right knee and lower leg.

If the defensive tackle suffers a serious injury, then it will be a big blow for the Bearcats' defense.

During the offseason, Dontay Corleone was sidelined indefinitely by coach Scott Satterfield because of blood clots in his lungs. He was hospitalized for recovery and missed out on the Bearcats' season opener against Towson.

The defensive tackle was then cleared by the medical staff to play during the team's home opener against Pittsburgh. Heading into Week 9, Corleone put up a total of 21 tackles and three sacks for the Bearcats.


What does Dontay Corleone's absence mean for the Cincinnati Bearcats?

Cornelone has been a top defensive player for the Bearcats. When former head coach Luke Fickell left for Wisconsin, the defensive tackle stayed with the program.

Last season under new coach Scott Satterfield, Corleone tallied 39 tackles and three sacks despite the Bearcats going 3-9. If he is injured and sidelined, then the team is going to have a difficult time compensating for his void which could lead to more scoring chances for the opposition.

The absence of Corleone will also affect Cincinnati's ability to put pressure on rival quarterbacks. Fans will be waiting with bated breath on an update on Corleone's injury.
