Duke's starting QB 2024: Who will start for Manny Diaz's team in Week 10?

The Duke Blue Devils will travel to Florida to take on the undefeated Miami Hurricanes in Week 10 at Hard Rock Stadium. So far in his debut campaign as head coach, Manny Diaz has helped the Blue Devils qualify for the bowl games (6-2, 2-2 ACC conference).

Last week, the Blue Devils lost to the SMU Mustangs by just one point. This was their second loss of the season. The team will be looking for redemption in week 10. So who will be the Blue Devils' starting QB against the Hurricanes?

Duke Blue Devils' starting QB against the Miami Hurricanes in Week 10

Maalik Murphy will continue his duties as the starting QB of the Blue Devils against Miami in Week 10. So far this season, he has started in all eight games for Manny Diaz's team and has tallied a total of 1,796 passing yards and 17 TD passes while throwing five interceptions.

In Week 9 against SMU, Maalik Murphy led the offense and put up 295 passing yards and three TD passes for his team. In overtime, he found Eli Pancol with a 25-yard TD pass. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils could not convert the two-point pass which led to them losing the game.

Coming out of Junipero Serra High School, Maalik Murphy committed to play for the Texas Longhorns as part of the 2022 recruiting class. He then went on to redshirt his freshman campaign while rehabilitating his ankle injury from the state championship game.

Last season, Murphy served as the backup to Texas QB1 Quinn Ewers. He saw playing time in seven games and recorded 477 passing yards and three TD passes for the Longhorns. The QB then decided to enter the transfer portal and subsequently landed with Duke where he was named the starting QB.

Duke's QB depth chart

Sophomore Grayson Loftis and redshirt sophomore Henry Belin IV are the other options Manny Diaz has in Duke's QB depth chart. Loftis joined the Blue Devils after coming out of Gaffney High School in 2023. Last season, he saw significant playing time on the field amid the injuries to Riley Leonard and Henry Belin IV.

Grayson Loftis started the last five games for the team and recorded 1,006 passing yards and eight TD passes.

Meanwhile, Henry Belin IV has been a part of the Blue Devils since 2022. He redshirted his freshman campaign before serving as the backup to Riley Leonard last season. Belin tallied 232 passing yards and three TD passes as a backup.
