The Florida quarterback room has been severely impacted by injuries this season, and now DJ Lagway is joining the list. Lagway was slated to be the backup this season behind Graham Mertz, but a torn ACL to Mertz thrust Lagway into the starting position.
Unfortunately for Lagway, he was carted off the field in the second quarter of Saturday's 35-20 loss to No. 2-ranked Georgia. He is listed as questionable on the injury report for Saturday's game against No. 5-ranked Texas. A decision on whether he will play is expected to be made shortly before the start of the game.
DJ Lagway injury update

After getting injured near the end of the first half against Georgia on Saturday, the status of quarterback DJ Lagway is in question for the game against Texas (7-1, 3-1 SEC). Despite not returning to the game, head coach Billy Napier provided a more optimistic update on Lagway's status.
"He's trying. He's a competitor. He's going back to his home state. He wants to try to find a pathway to make this work. Obviously, it's touch and go. Look, the guy's giving it his best shot."
Napier went on to say that it will only become clear whether Lagway will play on Saturday shortly before the start of the game. If he is not able to play, the Gators (4-4, 2-3) will need to turn to their third-string quarterback, Yale transfer Aidan Warner. Warner entered the game last week after Lagway's exit.
What happened to DJ Lagway?
Lagway was carted off the field with a leg injury in the second quarter of Saturday's game against Georgia. Napier initially described the issue as "pretty significant" during halftime but now it is a possibility that Lagway will return for Saturday's game against Texas.
After leaving the game, Lagway did not return to the playing field. Instead, he was spotted on the sideline using crutches. Additionally, he was wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg.
The injury happened after Lagway kept the ball on a first down and ran to the left side of the field. However, after he fell to the field he grabbed his left halfstring and needed trainers to help him get off the field.
When will DJ Lagway return?
It is not clear when Lagway will return. He is listed as questionable on the injury report and his status will not be determined until shortly before the start of the game.
