Drew Allar's status for Saturday's matchup between the No. 3-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (7-0, 4-0 Big 10 Conference) and No. 4-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1, 3-1) is a big conversation topic this week. However, the Penn State coaching staff is unlikely to provide an update on Allar until right before the game.
Allar was taken out of last week's 28-13 win over Wisconsin with an apparent knee injury, and it is not clear whether he will play against Ohio State. Penn State coach James Franklin said that a decision would not be made until after the pregame warmups.
Is Drew Allar playing today?
Drew Allar is listed as questionable on the injury report. The coaching staff have not announced whether he will play against Ohio State, or if backup Beau Pribula will get the start.
“It’s too early to tell at this point, but he’s played enough football that I think the decision will go all the way up to game time,” Franklin said on Monday.
“The reality is we’re gonna have to have both guys ready, and you could make the argument, all three guys ready, which is challenging to do in a game week.”
What happened to Drew Allar?
Allar sustained a knee injury late in the first half of last Saturday's win over Wisconsin. He attempted to play in the second half, but after warming up, he told Franklin that he would not be effective enough to play through the injury.
Pribula was inserted into the game and completed 11 of 13 passing attempts for 98 yards and a touchdown. Both players have practiced this week, so Penn State will have two QBs ready.
When will Drew Allar return?
It is not yet clear when Allar will return but he may be available for Saturday's game.
If he is not able to play against the Buckeyes, it is reasonable to expect that he will not be out for long and will likely be available as early as next week against the Washington Huskies after having more time to rest and recover.
No further updates have been released ahead of this week's matchup and the coaching staff will determine which QB will start right before kickoff.
