No. 2-ranked Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, a five-star recruit and top-ranked prospect, was among the top recruits in the Class of 2024. He committed to Ohio State over offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and USC.

Although he has success as a rookie at Ohio State, he could be interested in a transfer. He leads the team in rushing yards with 899 but has split the receiving duties with receivers Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate. Both players are expected to be back next season, so if Smith wants to have a larger role, he might need to transfer elsewhere.

Jeremiah Smith potential transfer portal landing spots

If Jeremiah Smith is interested in leaving Ohio State, he would have a huge number of teams interested in recruiting him. These are five of his most likely destinations.

#1 Miami

One of the schools that Jeremiah Smith considered committing to as a recruit was Miami. He ended up choosing Ohio State, but Miami heavily recruited Smith. The Hurricanes did an excellent job improving their roster this season with several big-name recruits. The most notable example was bringing in star quarterback Cam Ward who could be a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Miami has a well-funded NIL division and has not hesitated to spend money to help coach Mario Cristobal fill out his roster. That is not expected to change in 2025. So if Smith becomes available, the Hurricanes will likely try to recruit him again.

#2 Florida

The Florida Gators were another team that tried to recruit Jeremiah Smith before the 2024 season. Without Smith, they did not have the season they hoped for. However, some strong performances late in the season, including a 24–17 win over the No. 14 Ole Miss could make them a more enticing destination to players in the transfer portal.

Additionally, quarterback DJ Lagway has done an excellent job unexpectedly stepping into the starting quarterback job this season. So, playing with him could entice a young wide receiver like Smith.

#3 Georgia

Georgia was another big-name school interested in recruiting Smith in 2024. The No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs have had a rocky season, although they will compete in the SEC Championship Game. The Bulldogs suffered losses to the No. 13 Alabama and No. 14 Ole Miss and will want to avoid that next season.

If the Bulldogs want to improve their team with young talent, there are few better options than Smith. Since he already expressed interest in the Bulldogs last year, they could be a transfer option.

#4 Colorado

Colorado has not always been a top destination for recruits, but things have changed in recent years. Since Deion Sanders became the coach, the Buffaloes have been able to recruit more top players. Since the team will lose quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way player Travis Hunter to the 2025 NFL draft, it will need to recruit heavily again this year.

The team already successfully recruited five-star quarterback recruit Julian Lewis. So, it will need a new wide receiver for its young quarterback to throw to. And Smith would be a great option, especially if he wants to play for Coach Prime.

#5 Michigan

The defending champions might not have had the season they hoped. However, they made big news in November when five-star recruit and quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped his recruitment from LSU to Michigan.

With a new star quarterback on the roster, the Wolverines will want to build around him with young talent. Bringing in Smith if he enters the transfer portal makes sense for both parties.
