The Kent State Golden Flashes are having a tough 2024 college football season. They head into Week 14 with a winless record, and there's a high chance they'll end the season with the dreaded 0-12 mark.
They're up against the Buffalo Bulls at UB Stadium in Buffalo. Ahead of the showdown, let's take a look at the projected starting quarterback and his likely backup for this important matchup.
Kent State's starting QB against the Buffalo Bulls in Week 14
Tommy Ulatowski has started the majority of Kent State's games this season and is set to continue his run against the Buffalo Bulls. The junior quarterback has 1,262 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games. These numbers are solid, considering the team's overall stats at this stage of the season.
Ulatowski is in his third season with the Golden Flashes. The versatile quarterback was recruited after an impressive high school career that saw him lead St. Rita High School to two state titles and three conference championships using a dual-threat approach. He earned numerous football and baseball scholarship offers but eventually chose Kent State.
Ulatowski started his freshman season firmly embedded in the team's depth chart. He made his debut in the season opener against Bowling Green.
Ulatowski played a bigger role for Kent State in his sophomore season, appearing in 10 games. He started three of those and finished the year with 737 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. He showcased his passing ability against Bowling Green, amassing 284 passing yards and a touchdown in a win.
Ulatowski and the Golden Flashes are struggling in 2024, but it’s not for lack of effort. The St. Rita product has tried numerous times to lift his team in recent weeks, but they just can’t seem to secure a win.

The versatile quarterback was a two-sport athlete in high school, excelling on both the football field and the basketball court. The Golden Flashes coaching staff is said to hold him in high regard, and he'll likely continue learning from Ulatowski in the coming seasons.
