Former Alabama running back Damien Harris challenged second-year receiver Ryan Williams to elevate his leadership qualities ahead of the 2025 season. Williams, now on the cover of the new College Football 26 video game, had a record-setting freshman year but saw his production drop, averaging fewer than 40 receiving yards over his final six games.
Speaking to CBS Sports on Tuesday, Harris said Williams needs to become a consistent presence on and off the field.
“I want to see from Ryan Williams, in terms of improvement, is leadership.” (TS-7:13)

“We see what your talent can provide…,” Harris said. “Now, start being a voice in the locker room. Be the first guy in line for every drill. Be the first guy on the field and the last guy off… You’ve played at a high level. The guys around you need to step up to if Alabama is going to return to the promising years were before.”
Alabama missed the expanded College Football Playoff, finishing 9-3 last season. Kalen DeBoer has focused this offseason on building Williams’s endurance and preparing him to maintain peak performance throughout the year.
Ryan Williams' CFB 26 dynasty
Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams built his in-game dynasty with UCLA, calling the Crimson Tide "too easy" to use.
“It’s just too easy when I play with Alabama,” Williams told On3 last week. “I had to go not too low but somewhere in between.”
His UCLA team has won seven straight national titles on the hardest difficulty. Williams said controlling himself and Alabama’s roster would remove the challenge.
In real life, Williams had 865 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 2024, including a game-winner against Georgia. With Alabama breaking in a new quarterback, he's expected to play a bigger role and put up “video game numbers” in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
