Bill Belichick's UNC has suffered a setback in its pursuit of recruiting running back Damon Ferguson. On Monday, Ferguson, a four-star recruit who will enter the class of 2026, announced his commitment to Pittsburgh.
"Through tough evaluation, consideration, input from my parents, and prayer I have decided to commit to (@PItt Football)," Ferguson tweeted.

Ferguson had an excellent 2024 season at Milford Mill Academy, posting 105 carries for 1,341 yards and seven touchdowns, while also catching six passes for 111 yards and a score. The four-star recruit will aim to improve on those numbers as a senior later this year, before entering the collegiate level.
According to reports, several teams were interested in recruiting Damon Ferguson, including Belichick's North Carolina.
Belchick reportedly signed a five-year, $50 million contract at UNC in December. While many expected that the legendary NFL coach wouldn't have a problem recruiting young talent at North Carolina, the 73-year-old has been dealt a few setbacks this offseason.
Nonetheless, many are still interested in seeing how Belichick fares at the collegiate level after coaching the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles.
Damon Ferguson explains decision to commit to Pittsburgh
Damon Ferguson visited Pittsburgh on Saturday. He then explained his decision to commit to the Panthers on Monday.
"The relationship that I built with (running backs) coach (Lindsey) Lamar is what made me choose Pitt, along with its history of great players," Ferguson said. "I truly like how the running back is involved in every aspect of the offense."
Ferguson's visit to Pittsburgh was his third official trip to a program, following Indiana and Minnesota. The talented running back was also scheduled to take visits to Michigan State and Virginia.
However, it appears that Ferguson won't be visiting any more schools following his commitment to the Panthers.
Ferguson is the 15th commit of Pittsburgh's 2026 class and the 10th player to commit to the school from the official visit weekend. The Panthers did not have a running back in the class before Ferguson's commitment.
