After the No. 7-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide lost 24-3 to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, they have significantly reduced their chances of making the playoffs. They still have a chance, but it is no longer possible for them to make the SEC Championship Game. As a result, they must rely on their ranking to earn them a spot, which is far from a guarantee.

While the Crimson Tide are not favored to make the playoffs after the Week 13 games, they will still have a bowl game to play in.

Alabama bowl projections 2024

To determine which bowl game Alabama will play in, it is important to look at its playoff chances. After the Crimson Tide lost to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, their playoff chances are much lower. According to ESPN, they have a 26% chance of making the playoffs if they win their final game against the Tigers.

The biggest issue for the Crimson Tide is they do not have a chance to play in the SEC Championship Game. Since they have three conference losses, they cannot catch Texas who only has one. Additionally, while Georgia and Tennessee have two losses and could drop to three in their final games of the season, both have the tiebreaker over the Crimson Tide.

So, for them to make the playoffs, they will need to be selected as one of the seven at-large teams. The one thing going for them is many top teams on the border of making the playoffs lost in Week 13. So, it might be possible for a three-loss team like the Crimson Tide to squeak into the playoffs.

What bowl games will Alabama play in?

With the Crimson Tide (8-3) more likely to miss the college football playoffs than make them, they will have a different bowl game than normal. CBS Sports predicts that Alabama will play in the Citrus Bowl against the No. 24-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini (9-3).

The Citrus Bowl gets first pick on SEC teams after the playoff bracket is announced. So, it will be up to the Citrus Bowl organizers to determine if they would rather have the Crimson Tide or a different team.

Alabama football schedule: Key games remaining

The Crimson Tide only have one game left on their schedule and without a win, it will almost guarantee that they miss the playoffs.
