As we get deeper into the college football season, it becomes clearer who the Heisman Trophy contenders are. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty has emerged as the top contender after Week 6 as FanDuel has him as the betting favorite with +220 odds.

Jeanty's rise comes after Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe saw his odds drop to +1000 after his team was upset by Vanderbilt (40-35). Milroe was previously the betting favorite at +350 which shows how fast a player's odds can drop.

There are still several weeks left in the college football season so Jeanty's position as the top Heisman contender is far from secure; however, his performance this week gave him a massive boost.

Boise State won 62-30 over Utah State this week and Ashton Jeanty was a big part of the huge offensive output by the Broncos. He had 13 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Jeanty averaged 14.3 yards per carry — his best this season.

Ashton Jeanty Heisman Odds: How close is Boise State RB to winning?

Although Ashton Jeanty has taken the lead in the Heisman race, he has a long way to go to win it. Boise State still has more than half of its season left (seven games) and Jeanty will need to continue to perform at an elite level to outdo the other contenders.

Through five games, Jeanty has 95 carries for 1,031 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has had a run of 64 yards or more in all five games with his longest run at 77 yards in Week 1 against Georgia Southern.

While Jeanty has done a good job of putting himself in the discussion for the Heisman as a non-quarterback, there is another non-QB at the top as two-way star Travis Hunter is second with +320 odds.

Hunter and the Colorado Buffaloes had an open week this week but his odds still improved. He has 46 receptions for 561 yards and six touchdowns this season. Additionally, he has performed well as a cornerback with 16 tackles, including 11 solo efforts. He also has two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Miami quarterback Cameron Ward is the other player with odds close to Jeanty's at +450. In six games, he has completed 148 of 214 passing attempts for 2,219 yards and 20 touchdowns while leading the Hurricanes to a perfect 6-0 record.
