The 2024 college football season is now in the final week as things have turned to Week 14, with the Big Ten playing great football over the first 13 weeks of the season. The 18 teams have a combined 115-83 record, including a dominant 42-10 mark in non-conference games.
There were five Big Ten teams ranked in the latest rendition of the AP Top 25 Poll, with three among the top four teams in the nation, and a fourth in the top ten. No other programs received recognition from voters.
While the more important College Football Playoff rankings also had five Big Ten teams ranked in the top five entering the week, they will not be updated until Tuesday. Multiple teams still have an opportunity to reach the Big Ten championship game.
The No. 1 Oregon Ducks are undefeated in conference play, while the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes, No. 4 Penn State Nittany Lions and No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers have just one conference loss.
Here's a closer look at the conference championship game scenarios for each of those programs.
Big Ten Championship Game scenarios after Week 13
#1. Oregon Ducks
The top-ranked Oregon Ducks secured their spot in the Big Ten Championship Game with their Week 12 win over the Wisconsin Badgers. They are 11-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play. The Ducks are coming off of their second bye week and will face the Washington Huskies in their season finale.
#2. Ohio State Buckeyes
The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes control their own path to the conference title game, however, they have not secured a spot. They are 10-1 and 7-1 in conference play, with their lone Big Ten loss coming in a Game of the Year contender against the Oregon Ducks.
After beating the Indiana Hoosiers in Week 12, they simply need to beat the Michigan Wolverines and they will reach the Big Ten Championship Game.
#3. Penn State Nittany Lions
The No. 4 Penn State Nittany Lions have a path to the Big Ten championship game, but they will need help. They are 10-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play, with their lone Big Ten loss coming against the Buckeyes. Penn State will need to win their final game, which will come against the Maryland Terrapins.
They would also need the Buckeyes to lose to the Michigan Wolverines. The Nittany Lions own the tiebreaker over the Indiana Hoosiers as it would come down to cumulative conference winning percentage.
#4. Indiana Hoosiers
The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers no longer control their own path to the conference title after falling to Ohio State in Week 13. They are now 10-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Hoosiers will need to beat the Purdue Boilermakers to close the season while getting help elsewhere. They will also need the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions to lose in Week 14.
