UAB wide receiver Brandon Buckhaulter was taken off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter of the Blazers' 37-27 loss to Arkansas in Week 3.

As Buckhaulter caught a pass, he was face-masked by the Razorbacks’ Xavian Sorey on the play, causing him to lose his helmet. With his helmet gone, another Razorbacks player tackled Buckhaulter and drove him head-first into the ground.

It was a scary play, but luckily, Buckhaulter recovered well enough to make the trip home with UAB.

Following the game, UAB coach Trent Dilfer gave an update on Buckhaulter.

“He was moving. He was talking,” Dilfer said. “He’s at the hospital now. They feel confident & positive. He’s going through some tests. Hopefully he’ll join us on the plane.”

After the game, UAB also posted a positive update on Buckhaulter, saying he was released from the hospital.

Buckhaulter is a junior and in 2023 at UAB, he recorded five receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown. This season, he has recorded two receptions for 18 yards.

UAB lost 37-27 to Arkansas on the road to fall to 1-2 this season.

UAB coach is satisfied with his team's performance despite loss

Despite UAB losing to Arkansas, Trent Dilfer was still happy with his team's performance.

UAB went on the road to play an SEC team and Dilfer believes his team has improved every week, which he is happy about.

“We got better going into this week after being at a crossroads after losing that game the way we did,” Dilfer said, via KNWA. “We made the focus on just everybody getting better as coaches and players.
"We definitely got better this week. College kids can improve a lot in a week and so can coaches. We all did. They played better football this week. It wasn’t enough, but they definitely got better and all of our goals are still ahead of us since we haven’t started conference play yet.”

Dilfer is in his second season as the UAB coach and has led the program to a 5-10 record, including 3-5 in conference play.

UAB has its bye week before hosting Navy on September 28.
