Jalen Milroe is expected to play a big role for Alabama in the 2024 college football season. The quarterback, who has become a fan-favorite in Tuscaloosa, will lead the Tide's offense in coach Kalen DeBoer's first year with the program.

However, even before the 2024 season begins, fans are curious to learn whether Milroe, now a senior, will return to Alabama next year.

Can Jalen Milroe play for Alabama in the 2025 college football season?

Although Jalen Milroe will enter his senior year with Alabama in the 2024 season, he has one more year of college eligibility. This is because the quarterback is listed as a redshirted sophomore.

Hence, Milroe can return to Alabama for the 2025 season. However, he could also declare for next year's draft and forgo his extra year of eligibility.

It remains to be seen whether Milroe will return to Alabama next year. For now, he will be focused on leading the Tide to a national championship in the upcoming season.

Milroe was appointed as Alabama's starting quarterback ahead of the 2023 season. In his first season as a starter, the signal-caller threw for 2,834 yards and 23 touchdowns on 187 passes. He also rushed for 12 touchdowns as Alabama reached the College Football Playoff.

Alabama's postseason run under Milroe's leadership ended in the CFP semi-final when the Tide lost 27-20 against eventual national champion Michigan.

At Alabama's Southeastern Conference media day this year, Milroe outlined his ambition for the 2024 season. He also expressed eagerness to work with coach DeBoer.

“For us, we’re passionate about each other and also passionate about achieving short-term goals and long-term goals in this process and we can all reflect from it. We shared the same experience from Coach (Kalen) DeBoer with failing to achieve a national championship so now it’s about refocusing and focusing on our spring 2024 football season,” Milroe said.

Alabama will open the 2024 season by hosting Western Kentucky on Aug. 31.
