"Carson Beck on his worst day is better than Shedeur Sanders": Former Jets scout delivers verdict on dynamic QB duo as draft approaches

Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders will hear their names called by Roger Goodell in the 2025 NFL draft. It's just a matter of the round and the team that chooses to draft either player.

Ahead of Week 11 of the college football season, NFL Rookie Watch reported on Wednesday that Carson Beck has seen his stock drop following a couple of forgettable performances for the Georgia Bulldogs and might not get picked until at least the third round.

Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly issued a sharp rebuttal, stating:

"Carson Beck on his worst day is better than Shedeur Sanders on his best day."

And on Thursday, Kelly expounded further on his critique of Sanders by pointing out how "misleading" his stats this season have been. He claims that Colorado's offensive system has been set up to strengthen his stats and improve his draft stock.

How have Shedeur Sanders and Carson Beck performed in 2024?

Shedeur Sanders and Carson Beck are the starting quarterbacks on programs that are among the best in the country. Sanders plays for the No. 20-ranked Colorado Buffaloes, while Beck starts for the No. 3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

Shedeur Sanders has amassed a stat line of 2,591 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions in eight games this season. He has led the Buffaloes to a 6-2 record, and they're currently on track to record their best season as a program since 2001.

Carson Beck has amassed a stat line of 2,302 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in eight games. He has guided the Bulldogs to a 7-1 record, and they're currently on track to make the expanded College Football Playoff.

While Shedeur Sanders has better stats than Carson Beck, it's important to note that Beck competes in the SEC, arguably the toughest conference in collegiate football. Beck has also faced three ranked opponents compared to Shedeur's one, and he recorded two wins in those matchups, while Sanders lost against his lone ranked opponent, Kansas State.

In fairness to Sanders, though, he did throw for 388 yards on 34 of 40 passing with three touchdowns against the Wildcats.

But Kelly mentioned in his lengthy follow-up post on Wednesday that Sanders' impressive-looking stats have come against below-average competition.

However, it's very important to note that Beck has a more impressive roster as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs than Sanders does on the Colorado Buffaloes. One could only imagine what Sanders would have achieved with a roster as stacked as Kirby Smart's side.

At the end of the day, both quarterbacks have their merits, and it'll be interesting to see where both go in next year's draft. What's more, there's still a lot of football left in the NCAA this season to improve draft stock.
