Shedeur Sanders' mother Pilar and sister Shelomi both took to social media to congratulate the quarterback on his latest achievement. On Tuesday, college football announced the finalists for most of the major awards this season.
Shedeur was named as a finalist for the Davey O'Brien Award which is given to the best quarterback in the nation. He will be competing for this honor alongside Miami's Cam Ward and Oregon's Dillon Gabriel.
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders transferred from Jackson State last year and was immediately named as the Buffaloes starting QB. After a 4-8 campaign last season, Shedeur has managed to help the team become bowl-game eligible while putting up an 8-3 record.
Pilar and Shelomi shared a post on their Instagram story which showcased a picture of Shedeur alongside the announcement of him being a Davey O'Brien Award finalist.
In 11 games, Shedeur Sanders has tallied a total of 3,488 yards and 30 touchdowns passing while throwing seven interceptions on the field. He also helped the Buffs record a four-game winning streak before they lost to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13.
Fans did not expect Colorado to have such a great campaign after last season's disappointment. Not only did they qualify for the Bowl games but also became a favorite to win the Big 12 title. Unfortunately, their 37-21 loss to Kansas has put a big dent in their hopes of winning the conference title.
ESPN draft analyst highlights Shedeur Sanders' biggest weakness
The Colorado QB completed 23 of the 29 passes he attempted during their loss to the Kansas Jayhawks. According to ESPN's draft analyst Jordan Reid, Shedeur Sanders has one major flaw that he needs to work on ahead of his professional NFL career.
While replying to a fan talking about how the Colorado QB should release the ball quicker, Reid talked about how Shedeur needs to work on building trust with his teammates and make throws during 1-on-1 situations.
"On Shedeur. I agree, but one of the reasons he tends to hold the ball so long is that he's not a QB that throws a bunch of faith throws in 1-on-1 situations. Kansas played a TON of man coverage and that's what happened. I want to see him take more chances in that area in the NFL."
Shedeur is projected to be a first-round pick in the draft next year. But before that, his focus will be on helping Colorado win their final regular season game to keep their hopes of competing for the Big 12 title alive.
