DJ Lagway's absence fails to explain Florida going down 35-0 against Texas at halftime, argues CFB reporter

The Florida Gators have had problems with their offense all season long. Coming into their game with the Texas Longhorns, the Gators were faced with another problem. Their quarterback was injured.

During last week's game against the Georgia Bulldogs, freshman quarterback DJ Lagway was carted off with an injury and was unable to start against the Longhorns.

Without him, the team has struggled to find any points. At halftime, they were 35-0 down against a powerful Texas offense, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers.

However, College Football analyst Matt Baker believes that the lack of Lagway is not the sole reason why this Gators side has struggled in the game.

"So which is closer to the *real* Florida? What we saw last week against UGA, or what we’re seeing today (down 28-0) at Texas?
Yes, the injuries are a big factor, but DJ Lagway and Tre Wilson don’t cover or tackle," The Athletics' reporter said.

The Gators have come into the game with the Longhorns with several key offensive players injured. Alongside Lagway, players such as Montrell Johnson and Elijah Badger are not playing.

This has made the Gators offense far weaker, so the lack of points the team scored in the first half may be understandable.

But, as Baker says, these players are not involved on the defensive side of the ball.

For that, the Gators defense needs to be held accountable for their struggles against the likes of Quinn Ewers, Gunnar Helm, and Isaiah Bond.

Who replaced DJ Lagway against the Longhorns?

In the game against Texas, DJ Lagway was replaced by fellow freshman quarterback Aidan Warner. Warner is the team's third-string quarterback, and has barely played in his young career.

Warner had his most prominent game for the Gators last week against the Georgia Bulldogs. When Lagway was carted off the field, he was the one who replaced him.

He struggled against the Bulldogs defense, throwing for 66 yards from 22 attempts (with a completion rate of 31.8%) and threw one interception with no touchdowns.

His performance has slightly improved against the Longhorns, but this may only be because he has played from the start of the game, and the offense was planned around him.

However, while he may be playing a role in the lack of offense seen by the Gators in this game, Aidan Warner is not responsible for the defensive struggles the Florida Gators have had in this game.
