Shedeur Sanders may still be in contention for the Heisman Trophy this year, but he struggled in the Colorado Buffs' Week 13 defeat to Kansas on Saturday. Although Sanders is expected to get picked early in the NFL draft next year, ESPN analyst Jordan Reid has outlined one weakness in the signal-caller's game.
While agreeing with a fan who suggested that the Colorado QB needs to release the ball quicker, Reid tweeted:
"On Shedeur. I agree, but one of the reasons he tends to hold the ball so long is that he’s not a QB that throws a bunch of faith throws in 1-on-1 situations. Kansas played a TON of man coverage and that’s what happened. I want to see him take more chances in that area in the NFL."
Sanders completed 23 of 29 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns against Kansas. He also ran for 26 yards on four carries. Despite playing a strong game, Colorado lost 37-21 to Kansas.
As a result, the Buffs' ticket to the Big 12 Championship now depends on their next win, along with the right mix of Week 14 losses from the teams they're tied within the conference at 6-2: BYU, Iowa State and Arizona State.
Notwithstanding, some believe that Sanders is still in contention to win the Heisman, and is among the top picks in the 2025 NFL draft.
Shedeur Sanders appeared to shove a referee during game vs. Kansas
Although the highlight of Week 13 was Colorado's fall from their four-game win streak, an incident during the Buffs vs. Kansas game also became a talking point on social media. Shedeur Sanders appeared to push an official in the second half, after a heated altercation with a few Jayhawks defenders.
Sanders was not penalized for his actions, and on Monday, it was reported that the quarterback would not face any suspension either. This means that Sanders will start in Colorado's final regular-season game against Oklahoma State on Friday.
