The Week 14 battle between the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles showcased two teams that are on different paths. The Gators went on the road and secured a 31-11 victory and there were a lot of interesting factors in this game but the main takeaway was the Gators recovering five fumbles.

Florida (7-5) is locked into a bowl game having backup quarterback DJ Lagway under center. The Gators also planted their flag at the 50-yard line after the game and caused some chaos on the field.

Florida State (2-10) ended their poor season with a stinker at home and this could be the final game that Mike Norvell coaches at the program after a terrible season.

Let’s take a closer look at the box scores for both teams and determine why this game ended up being so one-sided.

Florida vs. Florida State Game Summary

The Florida Gators had a solid game and did not need to have a massive game offensively to do so. The team was able to record 18 first downs and had 368 total yards of offense (133 passing, 235 rushing).

The Gators were able to run the ball extremely well as they had 38 carries for 235 yards or 6.0 yards per carry. Their offense did a decent job and their five forced turnovers (all fumble recoveries) was the significant factor in their victory here.

The Florida State Seminoles could not get much going as they had 239 total yards of offense (140 passing, 99 rushing). The Seminoles were able to go 6-of-13 on third downs and converted their only fourth down try.

The team could not get big yards going as they passed for 5.0 yards per pass attempt and 2.3 yards per rushing attempt. Florida State needs to do better at maintaining possession if they want to improve next season as their year is over.
