The Alabama Crimson Tide were defeated by the Oklahoma Sooners 24-3 last weekend, handing Kalen DeBoer's unit their third loss of the season. Despite this, the team is still being considered for the College Football Playoffs.
The latest CFP ranking published Tuesday ranked the Crimson Tide at No. 13. While this means that they are out of the playoffs, it does mean that a slip-up from one of the top 12 could put them into the bracket.
However, former Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram believes that the loss to Oklahoma should be enough to prevent Alabama from making the playoffs. He told the Triple Option Podcast on Wednesday:
"They (Alabama) don't deserve to the go the playoff because of how they've been playing. That was terrible. To have your season on the line -- the conference championship, the CFP, all ahead of you -- and to go lay an egg like that on the road. Three turnovers, no response for the quarterback run. They (Oklahoma) ran for over 200 rush yards on us. That was just awful, man. That was terrible."
The loss to Oklahoma was unexpected, given the Sooners had not been one of the best teams in the SEC this season, with a 5-5 record entering the game. The Crimson Tide should have had an easy win, but it was anything but.
The Sooners' run game dominated. In turn, the usually strong Jalen Milroe had his worst performance of the year, throwing for 164 yards and three interceptions, with his run game being heavily restricted.
Mark Ingram thinks Alabama will defeat Auburn at the weekend
Mark Ingram expects the Crimson Tide to be victorious against their rivals, the Auburn Tigers at the weekend.
Speaking to the Triple Option Podcast, he said:
"But, hey, I know Bama. They're getting ready. They're behind the scenes. They got to bounce back, man. Because the last week was detrimental loss, man. If you want any hope at all of possibly even being one of those three-loss teams getting in, you got to dominate this week in the Iron Bowl, and I got my Tide rolling."
It is always good to beat your rival, and this has been something that Alabama has been doing a lot in the last 10 years. But, this game may have some added weight to it.
If the Crimson Tide can heavily defeat Auburn, and a little bit of chaos occurs with teams in the top 12 (for example: Tennessee loses to Vanderbilt) there is a possibility that Alabama can make it into the College Football Playoffs.
