Ohio State head coach Ryan Day’s feud with former football coach Lou Holtz has been one of the highlights of college football for some time now. As Ohio State prepares for its Saturday game against Michigan, Wolverines fans are reviving the feud to poke fun at Day and Buckeyes fans.
The tweet referenced the 2023 Ryan Day postgame interview after the Buckeyes beat Notre Dame, where he went after former Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz for criticizing his team.
“I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now. What he said about our team, I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here! We’re proud to be from Ohio! It’s always been Ohio vs the world, it’ll continue to be Ohio vs the world.”
He said this in response to Holtz’ statement on “The Pat McAfee Show”, where he claimed that Notre Dame is “a better team,” than Ohio State.
A number of Ohio State fans fired back immediately, eager to join the banter and defend their team.
Ohio State eager to give Michigan taste of its own medicine
The Buckeyes will be out for revenge Saturday against the Wolverines. They've been unable to win against Michigan in the last three matchups. Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka commented on the upcoming game, saying:
“This is the big one. I can’t speak about what they got going on in Ann Arbor, they got their own problems being 5-5 or whatever their record is. But this is the one that means the most to Buckeye fans, to Buckeye players, to the whole state of Ohio.”
After the victory over Indiana, Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer poured his heart out in the postgame conference, highlighting the significance of the upcoming contest against Michigan.
“It’s been tough. The stuff I had to see the coach go through … I love coach Day to death. There’s no one I want this win more for than him and his family and the brothers I go to battle with every day. The stuff that we had to go through the last three years is just nonsense. We just can’t wait to get out there and play.”
The Buckeyes will meet Oregon in the Big Ten championship game if they are able to register their first win over the Wolverines since the 2019.
