The now No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels upset the now No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs in a 28-10 beatdown that has puts both teams at two losses on the season.
Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck had another poor performance with just 186 passing yards, an interception, and no touchdowns. Jaxson Dart wasn't spectacular in his own right - 199 yards, one touchdown, one interception - but did enough to get the win. He had a season-high 50 rushing yards.
While many understood the Rebels taking home the victory in a close matchup was on the table, nobody expected the level of defensive domination put up by Lane Kiffin's squad, who now have renewed hope at making the 2024 College Football Playoff.
Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt completely dismissed Ole Miss' chances to beat Georgia, noting Kiffin's lack of success in high-leverage games against top SEC opponents. He quickly ate his words.
"Good for you," Klatt said. "That was a terrific win."
Shaking up the bracket: Bulldogs on brink of elimination?
With two losses in the books, the Bulldogs' path to the playoff is extremely narrow. Obviously winning out is a must, but there's some ground to make up. Georgia's next matchup is against the Tennesse Volunteers, who are currently slotted in as the No. 6 seed. If Georiga could knock down Tennessee to two losses while also gaining a tie-breaker, that could open up more paths to the postseason for the Bulldogs.
However, Georgia definitely does not feel like the unstoppable force it has been the past couple of years.
"Something is clearly wrong with the Georgia Bulldogs on the offensive side of the ball," Klatt said. "This is a team that is 50th in total offense...it's not even close to what the expectation is for Georgia."
Klatt noted Beck and the Bulldogs offense have relied on short fields to get touchdowns and that any sort of dynamic defensive scheme on the opposing side can really hurt them when it comes to sustaining drives.
Ole Miss' defensive line overpowering Georgia's offensive line was the key matchup in the Rebels' victory. Defensive ends Princely Umanmielen and Jared Ivey had two sacks each. Beck's interception came at the hands of John Saunders Jr.
While Georgia gears up for a Tennessee game that could determine the Bulldogs' season, Ole Miss will get set for the Florida Gators.
