LSU coach Brian Kelly finds himself in one of the hottest seats in college football after a stunning 42-13 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Death Valley in Week 11. The Tigers followed that up with another disappointing 27-16 loss to the Florida Gators in Week 12.
During Saturday's episode of CBS Sports' "College Football Pregame," analyst Damien Harris blasted Kelly's suitability for the LSU job.
"I'm gonna say it and this is my opinion — you don't have to like it, you don't have to agree with it — but I think Brian Kelly has got to go," Harris said. (0:10 - 0:50 mark of the video below)
"As soon as he signed his contract with LSU and I saw that, that thing where ... he went to a basketball game and faked a country accent. Then I looked at the situation that he had with Chris Hilton Jr. on the sideline against Florida where he was just belaboring this guy. I think he's not fit for this culture."
Several analysts believe Brian Kelly is on the hot seat
Brian Kelly was seen exchanging words with LSU wide receivers Chris Hilton Jr. and Kyren Lacy during the 27-16 loss to embattled coach Billy Napier's Florida Gators in Week 12 of college football action.
During an appearance on this week's episode of the "Matt Barrie Show," outspoken ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum was highly critical of Kelly's team.
“Now, you just said you don’t want to play Kansas if you’re another team. You do want to play LSU,” Finebaum said. “I talk to you every Monday after I talk to Kelly. There’s something that came about two years ago; we really enjoyed the relationship." (14:00 mark of the video below)
"And in the last few weeks, it’s just downright like riding a roller coaster at Six Flags, because it’s almost indescribable what a hot mess LSU is at the moment.”
Fellow ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith also addressed Kelly’s precarious position during an episode of "First Take" this week, referencing the coach's dismal record this season.
“Let me say this, I think Brian Kelly is in a world of trouble at LSU. I think this is the kind of situation right here that can cost him his job,” Smith said.
“Because we saw them get romped on national television by Alabama. We’ve seen them look like a shell of themselves. They’ve already got [four] losses on the season. I think it is official — Brian Kelly is in a world of trouble at LSU."
LSU fans showed their discontentment with Brian Kelly during the blowout loss to Alabama, and the pressure on the coach remains high. As the season progresses, Kelly is expected to stay under intense scrutiny, with his job security among the top storylines in college football.
