In his second season with the Texas Longhorns, quarterback Arch Manning has won the confidence of his fans. He took over as the starting QB for the past two games after Quinn Ewers injured himself during their showdown against UTSA. And so far, Manning has helped Texas remain undefeated with his incredible skills.
During an appearance on the Pivot Podcast last year in April, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made a prediction about Manning's future in college football. On the show, he talked about the QB's dedication and commitment to the game and carrying forward the Manning legacy.
Sarkisian also mentioned that Manning wants to be a great QB like his uncles and father and he is willing to put in the effort to develop himself in that way in the coming years at Texas.
"He's a kid. He's a college kid like I think so many times, you see the Manning name, and you think he's this perfect, in a box. Like nothing's wrong with him. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with him, but he's still a kid. I love that about him," Sarkisian said.
"But what he does have that I think is somewhere in the Manning DNA: This guys loves football. He works at football. We practice in the morning, that evening he wants to be up here watching every one of his plays, he works at his craft. He wants to be great. There's no doubt about it. And I think that's why he came here." (27:05 onward)
Last season, Arch Manning was the third-string QB behind starter Ewers and backup Maalik Murphy. But with Murphy transferring to play for Duke this season, Manning was promoted as the backup to Ewers.
And so far, in the four games that he played, Manning has proved his worth as the future starting quarterback of the Longhorns. He has recorded 901 passing yards and nine touchdowns while throwing just two interceptions. The QB also rushed for 82 yards while scoring three touchdowns for Texas.
Will Arch Manning play in the Red River rivalry showdown in Week 7?
It was reported that Quinn Ewers was making a successful recovery and also got first-team reps during practice on Tuesday. Thus, Ewers is expected to make a return to the gridiron for Texas' Red River rivalry showdown against Oklahoma in Week 7.
This means that despite his stellar performance in the past two games as the QB1, Manning will be sidelined to make room for Ewers to lead the team again. However, fans can expect to see Manning back in limited action as the season progresses before taking over as the starter next year.
The Texas vs. Oklahoma showdown is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Oct. 12. It is expected to kick off at 3:30 pm ET. The game will be broadcast on the ABC network and will also be available on various livestreaming sites, such as FuboTV.
