Before the start of the 2023 season, Jeff Brohm decided to join the Louisville Cardinals as their new coach. After six seasons at the Purdue Boilermakers helm, Brohm decided to return to his alma mater.
The Cardinals have been doing well this campaign. They started the season on a six-game winning streak before losing to Pittsburgh Panthers in their last game. So, how much is Louisville paying Jeff Brohm, and what are the terms and figures of his contract buyout?
How much is Jeff Brohm's contract buyout?
The 52-year-old coach's buyout is not very complicated. According to his contract, if he decides to resign from the position at any time or takes up any other job, he has to pay $1 million to Louisville.

However, if the program decides to fire Brohm without any reasonable cause, they will owe 100% of whatever value remains of his contract at that point.
When Brohm joined the Cardinals in December last year, he signed a six-year contract worth $36 million. In 2023,. his base salary is set at $5 million, and with every season, it will increase by $100,000.
The deal also includes various incentives that Jeff Brohm has the possibility of earning. If he leads the Louisville Cardinals to a seven-game winning season, he automatically gets an automatic one-year extension, making his contract worth $42.5 million.
If it's a 10-game winning season, it will be an automatic two-year extension, which will bring his contract value to $49.5 million.
Moreover, Brohm is also subjected to various performance incentives. That includes a $100,000 bonus for Bowl eligibility, a $100,000 bonus for being a part of the ACC championship game and a $250,000 bonus for making it to the college football playoffs.
Jeff Brohm's coaching career
Brohm initially played for Louisville during his college career.
After his professional football stint in the NFL and XFL, Brohm began his coaching journey as the coach of the arena team, the Louisville Fire. A year later, he returned to his alma mater as a quarterbacks coach.
Jeff Brohm stayed with the Cardinals up until 2008. There, he also served as an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
He then went on to have short stints with the Florida Atlantic (QB coach in 2009), Illinois (QB coach 2010-11), UAB (OC and QB coach 2012) and Western Kentucky (Assistant HC and OC 2013).
Moreover, Brohm served as the coach of the Hilltoppers for three seasons before joining Purdue in 2017, where he enjoyed most of his coaching success.
