The Georgia Bulldogs are preparing for another national championship run under head coach Kirby Smart. Last season, the Bulldogs had the chance to three-peat the natty and make history. Unfortunately, after losing the SEC championship game to the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Bulldogs were eliminated from the playoff race, bringing an end to their three-peat dreams. With the new season just a few days away, Kirby Smart will be looking forward to helping his team emerge as a potential natty contender in the new 12-team playoff format. However, after the first scrimmage of fall camp, Smart expressed his concerns over depth in the roster. While speaking to the media on Tuesday, Smart said that while he was happy with the progress of the team so far, he believes they are still off the mark when it comes to the standard of the program's name. "We got a long way to go as a football team. We are nowhere near close to where we need to be. I feel like we have less depth than we've ever had. And that's kind of a common thing talking to other coaches I talk to.I call it 'the deterioration of football' because every year we've been here, I feel like we've had more players capable of going in and play winning football and every year that goes down. We got to keep working to increase that number," Smart said.Kirby Smart took over as the head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs in 2016. And so far, he has led them to two national championships while putting up a 94-16 overall record. Smart has also developed several young talents who transcended into NFL stars.Kirby Smart spills the beans on the importance of helping players reach their full potentialDuring a recent interview with On3, the Georgia head coach was questioned about what makes him restless at night. Kirby Smart replied by stating that he always wants to help each player under him reach their full potential. This is something that keeps him 'up at night' and something that he aims for as the head coach of the Bulldogs."I think reaching the full potential of each player individually. Like you know what, championships are great, winning games are great, kids getting drafted are great, obviosuly kids graduating is awesome. But did he reach his full potential and did I impace him? Did we as a program at the University of Georgia impact that young man as much as possible?," Smart said. (14:10 onwards)It will be interesting to see if Kirby Smart can help Georgia go on and be the team to emerge as the national champ in the new 12-team playoff era.
