Fran Brown led Syracuse to a disappointing loss against Boston College in a Week 11 encounter on Saturday. The Orange entered the game as the favorite and the score was even at halftime. However, they went on to lose the game 37-31 at the BC Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA.
In his weekly media availability on Monday, Fran Brown explained his rituals whenever his team suffers a loss, which badly affects his daily routine and personal hygiene. The coach has done a pretty fair job in his first season at Syracuse but he still struggles to handle getting defeated.
“Honestly, I got a ritual. When we lose, I don’t even get in the shower until early this morning,” Brown said. “I'm just mad. I just brush my teeth. It’s like I don’t deserve soap.”

“I don’t deserve to do all that. I’m just focused on trying to get back and trying to make sure that our players mentally understand and know that I let them down and that they didn’t do it.”
Fran Brown has a process for every result
While Fran Brown sees his daily routine not going as planned whenever he suffers a loss, he has a separate process he goes through for a win also. Still engulfed in the setback brought by the loss to Boston College, the coach did not go into that in his media availability.
“There’s a process that I follow every week – win, lose, or draw,” Brown said. “The only thing is my wife, I can’t sleep in bed if we lose because I’m not going to get in the shower for that day. I’m just mad. I just sit there. I just brush my teeth.
“That’s what I have to do so y’all won’t say my breath stink. But I’m just kind of locked into certain things in certain ways. I think you’ve got to earn the right to do certain things. Winners get washed, you know what I’m saying. I’m a loser so I just kind of wait a little bit.”
Fran Brown had a good start to life at Syracuse, winning five of his first six games. However, he's only been able to win one of the last three, creating some concerns about his ability to sustain their early momentum. Nonetheless, the coach has shown some brilliance this season.
With bowl game eligibility already secured, Syracuse is scheduled to come up against Cal, UConn and Miami in the rest of the regular season. Brown and his team will look to finish the season on a high note and build on that in 2025.
