The Colorado Buffaloes, led by NFL-bound quarterback Shedeur Sanders, were on a mission against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 14 of college football action. This was after the Week 13 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks derailed their Big 12 championship game plans.
The Buffs punished the Cowboys from the start and built up a comprehensive 21-0 half-time lead.
Despite the brilliance of Sanders, who went 18-of-22 for 171 yards resulting in two touchdowns, one of which was caught by the Heisman-contending Travis Hunter, Coach Prime was not satisfied.
During an interview at half-time with a sideline reporter, the charismatic Colorado coach voiced his displeasure at Shedeur Sanders and co. for taking their foot off the gas.
"I'm not happy whatsoever," Deion Sanders said. "I don't care what the story is, we've got to execute. I don't know who put a stop sign out there on offense. It starts with the quarterback, it starts with the line, it starts with all of us."
When Shedeur Sanders battled back against Coach Prime's complacency remark
Deion Sander's half-time message to Shedeur Sanders and his team harkens back to last week's postgame news conference. On that occasion, the Colorado Buffaloes coach intimated that his team had gotten complacent and had started believing their own hype. This, he believed, led to the 37-21 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks.
"We started smelling ourselves a little bit," Deion Sanders said. "That's what I just told our team. We got intoxicated with the success. We got intoxicated with the multitude of articles and the assumption that we're this and the assumption that we're that. And we did not play CU football. Therefore, we got our butts kicked. It is what it is."
During his own postgame news conference, his son, the ever-confident Shedeur Sanders, disagreed with his father's assessment.
“Personally, I’m just an overconfident person myself,” Shedeur said. “So I can’t spot that on anybody else and say they’re overconfident. I’m not sure. We all did our job preparing, so whatever people did in their personal side, like mentally, you won’t be able to know. I’m focused on plenty of other things than how somebody is thinking at all times."
Shedeur Sanders has shown plenty of times in the past that he is willing to stand up to his father. He, alongside the Buffs' offense, responded in emphatic fashion, putting the Oklahoma State Cowboys to the sword to finish the regular season in style.
