Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian announced Ewers would start on Saturday for Texas.

Ewers had been practicing, and Sarkisian said he progressed enough to name him the starter.

Quinn Ewers has not played since Sept. 14 when Texas beat UTSA. Although Ewers dealt with an injury this season, Sarkisian shut down talks of his quarterback being injury-prone.

“I don’t necessarily think so,” Sarkisian said, via On3. “Sometimes injuries happen because they happen. When a guy gets piledrived onto their shoulder, there’s a pretty good chance it doesn’t matter who you are, your shoulder is going to be sore to some capacity or when you get piledrived and your clavicle get popped, I don’t know many guys that would have withstood that hit from Dallas Turner a couple years ago.

“That was an odd hit.”

Although Ewers hasn't played in nearly a month, Sarkisian has confidence his quarterback will return to full form.

"Our sport is our sport. I think more importantly, they monitor his ability to come back and how he comes back and how he plays," Sarkisian added. "I think Quinn has shown over his time that when he’s injured, he’s engaged, comes back, and he plays really good football coming off of injury.

"This to me is another chance to show that he can do that moving forward.”

This season, Ewers has gone 58 for 79 for 691 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Texas enters its game against Oklahoma as a 14-point favorite to defeat the Sooners. The Longhorns are currently the No. 1 ranked team in the country as they are off to a 5-0 record.
