Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe talked about the time he briefly lost his starting role in the 2023 season. Former coach Nick Saban benched the signal-caller in a matchup against South Florida two weeks into the season. Nonetheless, Milroe saw it as a learning curve in his career.

While speaking on "The Next Round" podcast, Milroe was asked how he felt about the situation. He replied:

"So, number one, I saw football in different lenses. You know, being on the sidelines, you learn so much, you know, being off the field. But, you know what I took personally? How strong I am as a person. And I acknowledged that I'm mentally strong. Because, in a normal reality, that would break somebody down.

"I honestly wouldn't change what happened. I feel as though it needed to happen in a sense to allow myself to get mentally strong and learn more about myself."

Milroe will again be the QB1 for Alabama in the 2024 season. Only this time, he will be playing under coach Kalen DeBoer, Saban's successor at the Tide.

At Alabama's Southeastern Conference Media Days on July 17, Milroe addressed the team's ambitions for the upcoming season and expressed his interest in working with coach DeBoer.

“For us, we’re passionate about each other and also passionate about achieving short-term goals and long-term goals in this process and we can all reflect from it," Jalen Milroe said. "We shared the same experience from Coach DeBoer with failing to achieve a national championship, so now it’s about refocusing and focusing on our spring 2024 football season."

Last season, Milroe threw for 2,834 yards and 23 touchdowns on 187 passes. He also rushed for 12 touchdowns as Alabama qualified for the college football playoff. However, Alabama's postseason run under Milroe's was short-lived. The Tide lost 27-20 against eventual national champion Michigan in the CFP semi-final.
