Quarterback Jayden Maiava is finally getting the opportunity to start for the USC Trojans against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He transferred from UNLV this offseason and served as the backup to Miller Moss.

However, Moss has not been very successful as the QB1 of the team. The Trojans have lost four of their last five games and are on the verge of not even qualifying for the playoffs (4-5, 2-5 Big Ten conference). After their recent loss to Washington, head coach Lincoln Riley has decided to try his luck with Jayden Maiava.

He is also the first QB of Polynesian descent to play for the Trojans. Ahead of their showdown against Nebraska, Maiava expressed his gratitude for representing the Polynesian community as a USC quarterback.

He also talked about how he is looking forward to his matchup against Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola who is also of Polynesian descent.

"Dylan has been playing great ball," Maiava said. "It's definitely a privilege to be the first quarterback here as SC. It's big shoes for me to fill, but I think with the great team that we have, the great players, the great coaches that we have takes a lot off, you know. Makes my job easier."

Jayden Maiava began his collegiate career with UNVL as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. He redshirted his freshman campaign with the Rebels and started as the backup to Doug Brumfield last season. However, after Brumfield's season-ending injury, Maiava was given the starting quarterback job.

Jayden Maiava helped the UNVL Rebels secure a 9-5 overall campaign last season. He also recorded a total of 3,085 passing yards and 17 TD passes before deciding to transfer to the USC Trojan.

So far, Maiava has seen limited time on the field for USC behind Miller Moss. Now after taking over as the starting quarterback of the team, he is looking forward to helping the program secure victories in their remaining regular season contests and be eligible for the Bowl games.

"I'm here for one thing and that's just to win games," Maiava said as per On3. "I firmly believe in our teammates We've got a great team, a great coaching staff. They do just a good job preparing us week in and week out. That's all I can do."

If the Trojans want to qualify for the Bowl games, then they have to win two of the remaining three games of the regular season.

It will be interesting to see if the decision to replace Miller Moss with Jayden Maiava pays off for Lincoln Riley and his team.
