James Madison vs. Appalachian State: Game Summary

James Madison scored the lone points of the first half with an eight-play, 75-yard drive capped off by an eight-yard passing touchdown from Alonza Bennett III to Cam Ross, giving the Dukes a 7-0 lead.

After forcing a punt, the Dukes capitalized with a 37-yard pitch-and-catch to Josh Phifer for another James Madison touchdown. Appalachian State mustered its first points on the ensuing drive, kicking a 23-yard field goal. After forcing a fumble on James Madison's ensuing drive, the Mountaineers scored their first touchdown with a four-yard pass from Joey Aguilar to Eli Wilson.

The Dukes kicked a 46-yard field goal to extend their lead to 17-10 with under three minutes left in the first half. Appalachian State tied the game at 17-17 with a 64-yard touchdown pass to Makai Jackson. On the next drive, the Mountaineers returned a blocked James Madison punt to take a 24-17 lead into the half.

James Madison opened the fourth quarter with a 52-yard field goal, cutting Appalachian State's lead to 24-20. Each team kicked a punt before the Mountaineers marched 76 yards in 10 plays, with Ahmani Marshall punching in an Appalachian State touchdown to extend the lead to 31-20.

The Mountaineers scored the first points of the fourth quarter with a 41-yard field goal to extend their lead to 34-20. Appalachian State held the Dukes scoreless for the remainder of the quarter, securing a 34-20 win and spoiling James Madison's Sun Belt Championship game hopes.
