Joey Aguilar has had an unpredictable year so far in 2025. Entering his final season of eligibility in college football, the quarterback thought he would be playing at UCLA. He completed a transfer to the program during the winter following two seasons with Appalachian State.

However, an NIL fiasco between Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee saw a lot change about his future. After the sudden collapse of his relationship with the Volunteers, Iamaleava transferred to UCLA, eventually leading Aguilar to hit the portal again and move to the opposite side.

Joey Aguilar celebrated his 24th birthday on Monday as he prepares for the 2025 college football season with Tennessee. The quarterback received a heartfelt and prayerful message from his girlfriend, Rylan Moffitt, on her Instagram story to mark the special day.

“Happy birthday, my love 🤍 Watching you live and loving you is the greatest joy,” Moffitt wrote. “Year 24 – I pray God goes before you and does exceedingly and abundantly more than you could ask or imagine.”

Rylan Moffitt also celebrated her birthday on Sunday, just a day before Joey Aguilar. The birth date seems to communicate the kind of bond they've built.

Aguilar and Moffitt's photos together started surfacing on Instagram in September 2024 while both were at Appalachian State. Moffitt is also an athlete and plays for the Mountaineers women's basketball team.

After a standout freshman year in which she averaged 6.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game while starting all but one contest, Moffitt experienced a reduced role as a sophomore. She didn’t start any game, leading to a dip in production with averages of 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds.

Rylan Moffitt will join Joey Aguilar in playing at a new destination next season

With Joey Aguilar set to play his final season in college football with the Volunteers, Rylan Moffitt will also play at a new destination. She completed a move to UNCG in April, around the same time her boyfriend transferred to Tennessee after a short stint at UCLA.

Despite not participating in spring camp, Aguilar has earned the respect of his new coach, Josh Heupel. The Volunteers' coach spoke highly of him when he arrived in Knoxville in April.

“He [Aguilar] has the ability to throw the ball vertically," Heupel said. “He's accurate and on time in the intermediate passing game. [He] has the ability to use his feet to extend plays, but you can use him in the quarterback run game, too. [These] are similar to some of the traits we have with our guys on campus right now.”

Moffitt will also be looking to gain the confidence of her coaches at UNCG next season. With her experience so far in women's college basketball, she can bring valuable experience to the team.
