The Michigan Wolverines have had an inconsistent season (6-5), but they still have the chance to play spoilers when they face their eternal rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1). The teams meet in Columbus in Week 14 of college football action.
Below, we take a look at the team's injury reports ahead of the clash.
Michigan injury report
Over the past few weeks, the Wolverines have been dealing with injuries to their key starters. Below, we take a look at the players' expected availability against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Will Johnson
Michigan's All-American defensive back Will Johnson has had an injury-plagued season. He has missed several games since suffering an injury in the Wolverines' 21-7 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini.
CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz reported on his availability for the game against OSU.
"Michigan is expected to be without star cornerback Will Johnson vs. Ohio State, a source tells @CBSSports /@247Sports Sherrone Moore had said 'we’ll see' earlier in the week re: Johnson, who has been out since early October due to a toe injury," Zenitz posted.
Colston Loveland
The Wolverines lost star tight end Colston Loveland during their game against the Northwestern Wildcats due to an undisclosed injury. He has been limited in training all week, according to an ESPN report.
During his weekly news conference, first-year Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore was optimistic about Loveland's chances of making the rivalry game.
"He's trending in a good direction to be available," Sherrone Moore said. "So, we'll just continue to work and see what happens.
"He's unbelievable, you talk about a guy that just works. From Gooding, Idaho. Very unknown. He's come in here and been a name in college football that everybody knows. He's just outstanding in every way. It's a blessing to be around. He's a pleasure to be around in every way. I'm just glad we got him."
Ohio State injury report
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a shorter injury list than the Wolverines.
Zen Michalski
Ohio State's offensive lineman Zen Michalski has been listed as questionable for the rivalry game after sustaining an undisclosed injury against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day gave an update on Michalski's injury during his weekly news conference.
“We’ll see how he’s healing,” Ryan Day said. “If he can heal enough to be able to play. If not, he’ll have to have more of a long-term surgery.”
Seth McLaughlin & Josh Simmons
The two offensive linemen were listed as definitely out after sustaining season-ending injuries. Seth McLaughlin tore his left Achilles during last week's training while Josh Simmons injured his right knee during the regular season loss to the Oregon Ducks.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have not beaten the Michigan Wolverines since 2019. With the season that their rivals are having, coupled with their extensive injury list, coach Ryan Day's team will fancy a long-overdue win.
