Montrell Johnson, the Florida Gators' leading rusher over the past two seasons, sustained a knee injury during the fall camp, as per On3 Sports. The injury was a minor one, which led Johnson to undergo a routine arthroscopic to clean up his knee.
Johnson is expected to be week-to-week, and the injury is believed to not be one that would keep him out for an extended period of time.
Montrell Johnson has led the Gators in rushing and averaged 5.4 yards per carry in each of the last two years, totaling 817 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. In 2022, he recorded 841 yards and 10 TDs.

Additionally, he rushed for 838 yards and 12 scores as a freshman in Louisiana. He was also more involved in the passing game in 2023, catching 30 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown.
When healthy, Johnson is expected to have the server task of handling a larger workload. He said, during the 2024 SEC Media Days:
“I expect to get the ball more coming into the future this next season,” Johnson said. “I’m not too worried about it because I feel like I can hold the load on my own and just going out there and making sure I play mistake-free football.”
Who will be the backup option to Montrell Johnson?
The Gators will take help from sophomore RB Treyaun Webb, who played in 11 games as a freshman in 2023. Webb tallied 163 rushing yards on 26 attempts with two rushing touchdowns and had four catches for 18 yards.
The Billy Napier-led squad added a pair of talented freshmen in Jaden Baugh and KD Daniels, with Baugh showing out in the spring game.
Johnson has the potential for 1,000 yards in this college football season. If he is clear to play, the team will heavily depend on his talents.
