The 2025 NFL draft is expected to have some high-quality quarterbacks, including Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Texas' Quinn Ewers. However, draft analyst Dane Brugler believes that Miami signal-caller Cam Ward could pip the competition as the top quarterback next year.
On the "Scoop City" podcast with Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel on Thursday, Brugler explained why he feels Ward will go as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 draft.
"So, if I had to make a bet right now on who the first quarterback drafted is going to be, it would be Cam Ward, out of Miami," Brugler said. "He's 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, electric arm talent, really elusive in the pocket. He's a very loose player and that's part of what makes him dangerous."
Brugler also spoke about the areas that Ward can work on before the 2025 NFL draft.
"But he is also loose with his decision-making and that directly leads to negative plays. And the best way I can sum it up is he's a fireworks player," Brugler said. "But fireworks, that's also a big warning label on them right?"
While Shedeur has led No. 23 Colorado to a 6-2 record thus far, there are still question marks about his arm strength and creative ability. Meanwhile, Ewers has struggled to hit his peak for Texas in the past few weeks due to an abdominal injury.
This has led to Ward getting more of the limelight, and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. There will be a number of NFL teams closely monitoring him in the coming weeks as well.
Cam Ward is boosting his draft stock ahead of 2025 NFL draft
Following words of encouragement from college football analyst Brugler, Cam Ward will aim to boost his draft stock even further for next year.
Ward has completed 191 of 281 pass attempts for 2,746 yards and thrown 24 touchdowns, with five interceptions. He has also added 186 yards on 42 carries and rushed for three touchdowns across eight games, leading No. 5 Miami to a perfect 8-0 record.
The Hurricanes are in the College Football Playoff spots and will aim to continue their unbeaten streak to get a postseason berth, where they can push for the national title.
