No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter joined a prestigious club on Saturday of players who have won the the Heisman Trophy. He won the award over fellow finalists Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami QB Cam Ward and Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel. One of the players he joined in the Heisman club was the 2010 Heisman winner, quarterback Cam Newton (Auburn).

After the Heisman Trophy Ceremony on Saturday, Travis Hunter posed for several photos with people attending the event. One of those was Cam Newton, who posted the photos on Twitter after the event. He captioned the post with:

"Fämīłÿ Bûśīñēśś 🤠 @TravisHunterJr."

Travis Hunter wins 2024 Heisman Trophy

Heading into the 2024 Heisman Trophy Ceremony on Saturday most pundits agreed that Hunter was going to win the award. However, the voting ended up being much closer than most people expected.

Hunter won the award with 2231 points and 552 first-place votes, but Ashton Jeanty was not far behind with 2017 points and 309 first-place votes. The other finalists, Dillon Gabriel (24) and Cam Ward (6) finished with 30 first-place votes combined, so it was a two-horse race.

A close race made sense as both players had historic seasons. Hunter had one of the best two-way seasons in college football history, dominating as both a wide receiver and cornerback. Conversely, Ashton Jeanty had one of the best rushing seasons of all time, finishing in the top five in all-time rushing yards in a season (2497).

Where will Travis Hunter be drafted?

As a Heisman winner, Hunter is expected to be one of the first picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Heisman winners usually get drafted highly, with 25 going first overall, including Cam Newton in 2011. However, it is not a guarantee that Hunter will go first overall.

The first overall pick is typically a quarterback, even if they are not viewed by scouts as the best player in the draft. Six of the past seven first-overall picks have been quarterbacks. It is possible that Hunter's teammate, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, could get drafted first overall over him.

However, if Hunter slides out of the first overall pick, he should still be drafted in the top five. It will be interesting to see if the team that drafts him has more interest in playing him as a wide receiver or cornerback.
