Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers returned to action on Saturday against rivals the Oklahoma Sooners after missing the last three games due to a rib injury. During his absence, backup quarterback Arch Manning stepped in and successfully led the team to maintain their undefeated season.

During the ABC broadcast of the game, correspondent Holly Rowe told the viewers about Ewers' road to recovery.

"You know Quinn Ewers’ rib injury. That rib strain and oblique strain, they have been doing all kinds of things. They reached out to Patrick Mahomes quarterback trainer, Bobby Stroupe. He’s been doing breathing exercises underwater to contract those ribs, using an ultrasound machine for hours. Watching in warmups, he was not grimacing or in pain but we’ll see how that changes with a hit today in this game.”

Several measures were taken to ensure Quinn Ewers was healthy for the rivalry game. This included reaching out to the trainer of star NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who assisted in making Ewers 100% healthy.

By playing in this big game, Ewers solidified his status as the Longhorns' QB1, a position that had felt threatened by Arch Manning's string of strong performances.

Not playing Manning in this game did have its benefits. If Ewers struggles in his return, they would be able to bring the in-form Manning. The same may not have been possible if the situation was flipped.
