Quinn Ewers has had a strong season for the Texas Longhorns despite some hiccups, including an injury that sidelined him for two full games and more than half of another. The five-star prospect – and top-ranked overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class – has made nine starts, throwing for 2,089 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 68.0% of his passes.
He entered the year with the expectation that this would be his last season with the Longhorns due to the looming presence of backup Arch Manning.
While recent rumors began to circulate that he could enter the transfer portal instead of declaring for the 2025 NFL draft, On3 Sports' Pete Nakos does not expect the Texas quarterback to play for a new collegiate program next season, writing:
"Sources told On3 on Monday night that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has no intention at this point of entering the transfer portal." [h/t On3 Sports]
Nakos added that the transfer portal quarterback class is not expected to have as much talent as it did last year. He noted that despite the decline in proven talent, there are several teams expected to be in the market for a quarterback. Ewers is currently projected as a late first-round or early second-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Steve Sarkisian shares message of support for Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers has faced calls for his starting job under center to be given to Arch Manning at various points this season. Steve Sarkisian recently showed support for his starting quarterback. Inside Texas shared his comments to X/Twitter:
"My hope is that he's enjoying this experience because this stuff is once in a lifetime," Sarkisian said. "He comes back and here we go again. We're 9-1, we're in the SEC, and we're competing for a conference championship and an opportunity to get back to the playoffs.
"I'm hopeful that he's enjoying it, that he's learning some real life lessons about how to deal with adversity, and I think I'm hopeful that he's pouring into those that are really close to him," he added.

While his draft stock has taken a hit in recent weeks, the Longhorns are 10-1 entering the final week of the regular season. They are in a strong position to reach the SEC Championship Game in their first season in the conference and to return to the College Football Playoff for the second time in as many seasons.
