Their official news website, Tudum, announced that the project will consist of eight 45-minute episodes. Box to Box Co-founders James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin, along with Head of Current Programming (LA) Hilary Olsen, will executive-produce the SEC docuseries. The studio has produced documentaries on popular sports figures and entertainers, including "Amy," and "Diego Maradona."

Collin Orcutt will also serve as the showrunner. Orcutt was the executive producer, showrunner and director of the Apple TV+ docuseries "Home" and "Omnivore." He also led the Sports Illustrated film division, producing projects like "89 Blocks."

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey shared a statement with the streaming platform about the new docuseries. Tudum's Roxanne Fequiere transcribed the following quotes.

"This behind-the-scenes docuseries will bring all the drama and pageantry of Southeastern Conference Football to a worldwide Netflix audience," Sankey said.

Netflix didn't say in the press release whether all SEC teams will be featured in the docuseries.

Netflix continues to double down on streaming sports content

The streaming service has started focusing more on sports content this year, as well as popular movies and TV series. Netflix will feature two NFL Christmas Day games on Dec. 25. The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, and the Baltimore Ravens will face the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT.

Next year's SEC docuseries will not be the first time the streaming service covered college football. They produced "Last Chance U," which featured players looking to turn their lives and careers around by competing in junior college football. The docuseries had a successful run with five seasons, with the fifth season premiering on July 28, 2020.

The upcoming SEC project has a chance to spotlight teams and players in a way that fans have never seen before. Netflix's having Box To Box studios and Orcutt working on the docuseries could lead to another great sports program for college football.
